September 18th Updates

Our local charities need our help now more than ever
To keep from going Covid Crazy, Creative Hands has kept busy creating for you! Even Social distancing hasn’t kept us from making pillows, pumpkins and plentiful hand crafted items. The sale of our handiwork raises funds for UMW to support local charities. And since most of us aren’t out shopping too much, what better way to shop for the holidays. So pop over to the church parking lot from 10am to 2pm Saturday, Sept. 26th for our open air pandemic pop-up from the trunks of our cars and SUVs/ Enjoy complimentary treats with styles by The Secret Ingredient.

Community Emergency Relief Room
The Community Emergency Relief Room will be part of the UMC Pop-up scheduled for September 26. Representatives of the Relief Room will be on hand to share information about this new mission and will have items available for purchase to help support the mission. Included will be brand new LuLaRoe women’s clothing and leggings available at a great price. A large amount of Tupperware will also be available for purchase. So be sure to look for our display, get some items for yourself or for Christmas presents for others, and in doing so, contribute to the Relief Room ministry.

Getting Political – Shalom Sessions
With so much dividing us in our world today, the church can and should offer a third way of uniting us in following the way of Jesus. Following up on Pastor Joseph’s sermon on the church as a political (but not partisan) entity, we will be continuing the conversation. Join us on the 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 12:05 in the Fellowship Hall for a brown bag lunch as we discuss and listen to the matters and efforts breaking and making the Shalom of our community. This week, the 15th, we will again be discussing the political nature of the church and take requests for future topics of conversation.

Worship Team
There is much you will find in this newsletter calling you to portions of what home means for us at Central. The devotionals which call us to walk deeper with God. The reports of the good works we are shining to Richmond and beyond. The invitations to serve in building a home for many to follow Jesus here at Central. Fall break sits like an oasis for this strange school year. The Living prayer studies continue to call us to one another and a deeper walk with God. We continue to serve many every week here through the ministry of our building. Soon we will offer our commitment cards for 2021 and the work God has for us all at Central. There is much going on with our Central home.
I will offer one such invitation for this intersection of wisdom and the 21st century. Will you prayerfully consider serving on the Worship Team? We have many dreams to grow our worship services in the coming years so that others will have space to connect to God. This might mean new services, different services, or television services. All of these need more servants in the audio video work to become a reality. Please prayerfully discern whether you have the time and heart to bring worship more fully to someone else. Do not worry about the skills. God equips the called more than he calls the equipped. And I know several people ready and willing to walk every step with you. If you feel this tug on your heart, please send me an email joseph@richmondcumc.com.

Step Out Saturday – October 3rd 11:30am
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us, “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” So many at Central have done this well in their own mission fields during the pandemic. On October 3rd, we plan to do this at Central. There will be outdoor praise and worship and a community luncheon beginning at 11:30am. Prayer walks, projects, and service opportunities will follow. Please be in prayer about the ways we can let our lights shine before others on this day and every day! Please wear a Central or red shirt.

Questions about Richmond Area Support Group:
Who are the “facilitators” of the group?
Does the large group sometimes divide into smaller sub-groups
so that “shy persons” will be more likely to express their feelings
    and thoughts? (I hope so.)

    • Christin Hampton says:

      Hello Ron,
First English Lutheran Church would be better at answering these questions. Their phone number is (765) 962-5773. I hope that helps!
