Lester Robinson’s Memorial Service

On Sunday August 2nd we will be having a Celebration of Life for Lester Robinson. Visitation for Lester will be at 2pm with service at 3pm at Central United Methodist Church. You may view his obituary HERE

Wisdom Study Resuming

Wisdom. We desperately need it in 2020, yet it drips forth from Genesis to Revelation. Join us as we resume our study of Wisdom literature starting Tuesday August 4th at 1:30pm. We will recap where we have been in the first gathering and then move on to Song of Songs. We will be having a hybrid session of in-person and Zoom to accommodate whatever situation you find yourself. Realm Sign-ups Sunday!

Realm is an online ministry tool designed for real time connection. It helps our church connect with you and you connect with us. Realm allows you to manage your personal information and who is allowed to see it, control your giving, and keep in touch with the groups that matter to you. Join us in the Parlor Sunday after worship to get your account set-up. Want to know more about Realm? Join us on Mondays and Thursdays in August from 10am – 11am where we will be available to answer any of your questions.

 

Prayer Service on Sundays at 6:30pm.

You, me, and God – bringing our hearts before our maker together at 1425 E Main in the Sanctuary for a half hour each week.  In the midst of the uncertainty of 2020, we will be leaning into the knowledge of our God, and discerning where the Holy Spirit is leading Central in the days to come.  

 

Prayer Walk Monday at Noon

Prayer connects us daily to a loving God moving in our midst. In his 3 rules for Methodists, John Wesley calls us to both private and public prayer. On the first Monday of every month at noon, we will have a prayer walk through our neighborhood. We will divide into small groups at the entrance of the church and proceed in different directions. Along the way, we will pause to pick up trash and renew our streets and sidewalks. Please contact Pastor Joseph with any questions. For those who cannot participate in this way, contact pastor Jen for alternative options.

 

Stuff the Bus

At the Annual Conference of the Indiana United Methodist Church each year a mission project is presented for all the Indiana churches to participate in.  Last year we donated lap blankets to Brianna’s Hope and the previous year it was backpacks packed with personal health care products for the homeless. 

This year our project is Stuff the Bus which follows the theme of this years conference “Children Matter Most”.  However, due to COVID-19 and to avoid physically handling school supplies donations will be accepted and donated to the 10 Districts of the Indiana Conference. 

To donate: 

  • Text the word “missional” to give to Children Matter Most, and the amount of your donation to 855-389-1555.
  • Give online through Securegive at https://app.securegive.com/INUMC/-missional-offering.
  • If you prefer to get a check to me, I will see that the conference gets it.

We will examine the fascinating stories behind our most beloved Methodist hymns, and discuss how these songs help to enrich our spiritual lives and elevate our worship experience. Shrub Trimming Workday

We will have another shrub trimming workday this Thursday, July 30th from 8AM-11:00AM. Please contact Frank Monroe (765-716-0531) or Dave Sheets (765-914-2437) if you are interested so we will know how many to plan for.

We will gather at 6:00pm outdoors (indoors if it’s raining) for a time of praise through song with guitar. Children will then have the opportunity for a short lesson and playing on our playground or indoors in the gym, while the rest of us join together for a short devotion and discussion. We hope you will join us!

UMW Program Books

In an effort to continue with some UMW activities, and the opportunity to return to some “normalcy”, we are in the process of updating the UMW program book and planning programs for 2020-2021. You are correct, gatherings won’t be like we’ve done in the past, but we will continue the best way possible, keeping everyone’s health and welfare in mind.

If you would like to have your name and contact information printed in the program book, please forward the following information to Christin no later than August 31, 2020. We are planning to distribute new books by December. Providing your information for publication in the program book automatically recognizes you as a supporter/member of Central’s United Methodist Women’s unit and the Indiana Conference. As such, we are obligated to pay $13 for each name listed. The $13 minimum pledge is then distributed to the Indiana Conference, the Lucille Raines Residence in Indianapolis, and scholarships for UMW’s Mission u. When UMW supporters/members are able to give more than the $13 minimum pledge, Central’s UMW unit is able to provide additional support to local service agencies. Community Emergency Relief Room
Referral procedures are now in place for the IN Dept. of Child Services, the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency, and the Richmond Fire Dept. Other agencies will follow. This should mean increased use of our Relief Room. As always, appreciation is extended to those who continue to make financial and material donations for our effort.  At this time, our primary needs are baby and toddler items including diapers, wipes, lotions, etc.; clothing for school age children; and essential household and kitchen items.  Anyone wanting further information should feel free to contact Dana Mollenkopf at 765-277-0287.

A New Day, A New Army

We have heard story after story of how the livestream service is blessing many. Therefore we are resolving to continue to offer our online Sunday morning service indefinitely. When our fellow Wesleyan William Booth changed the name of the Christian Mission to the Salvation Army he declared he did not want to settle down into quietness, but rather go forward at all costs. Friends we have reached such a time with our online ministry. Right now we have a few faithful who are making sure this ministry continues. Long term, we will need reinforcements on this team to run sound, video, and slides. Is it you? Are you willing to serve on Sunday mornings and beyond? If you discern this in your prayers, please contact the office.

 

Community Food Pantry Volunteers Needed

• Twice per week – 2 hours per day: A volunteer is needed to be present while the pantry is open. This person would help wherever needed. Re-fill shelves, accept food donations at the back door, help pass out food if church volunteers need extra help.

• Once per week – 1 to 2 hours: Our truck goes to the Richmond Meijer to pick up their donations. When the truck drivers unload the food, we need a volunteer to help unload the truck, sort the food and add it to our shelves. The length of time varies by the amount of food.

• Once per month – 2 to 3 hours: Once a month our truck goes to pick up food from Gleaners Food Bank. When the truck drivers unload the food, we need a volunteer to help unload the truck, sort the food and add it to our shelves. The length of time varies by the amount of food.

• Once per week on your own schedule: We need a volunteer to recycle excess cardboard. Once a week load and haul the cardboard to the landfill for recycling. Volunteers will need a mini-van or pick-up. Length of time varies.
