9/9/21 Updates

Five Marks of a Methodist Study

This Sunday, was to be the first meeting of ALL of the Adult Sunday School classes for the “Five Marks of a Methodist” study. BUT, since Wayne County has moved to the “Red Advisory Level”, I think it’s best to postpone until the “Advisory Level” goes back down. I’ll continue to keep an eye on the Wayne County Health Department Facebook page along with consulting Dr Rider. I’ll let you know via email and other church communication methods to let you know when the study will begin. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you’ll all stay safe and well. – Jim Puckett

Mae Monroe’s Celebration of Life

The family of Mae Monroe will be holding a celebration of life on what would have been her 81st birthday – September 18th, 2021. It will begin at 12:30 with a brief Celebration of Life service, followed by food, fellowship and activities, until 4:00. The celebration will be held at the Williamsburg Community Center, 8441 N Centerville Rd, Williamsburg, 47393. Please RSVP to Susie Lewis, by text or phone, at 765.238.0300 or by email to Frank, at famonroe@gmail.com. Dress is summer “casual.” Masks are welcome and recommended. If a mask mandate is in place either at the county or higher level at the time of the Celebration of Life, we will follow this mandate. Memories of Mae (text, video, pictures, and/or audio) are welcomed. Please send these to Susie or Frank by Monday, September 13. These will be added to the powerpoint presentation.

New Members Class

Central would like all who feel led to confess Christ for the first time, become baptized or join their membership with our local congregation to prayerfully consider joining this upcoming class.  Our New Member Class will begin September 19th @ 9:00am.  This class will run for 6 weeks and will cover a packet on Christian living, Methodism and Central’s ministries.  Additionally the book, I Am a Church Member, will be given to all who sign-up.  New Members will be received into the church at a service following the completion of the class.  To register, please email Pastor Joseph (joseph@richmondcumc.com).

New Directory

It is good to be in connection with the body of Christ. It is also good to know how to contact our fellow Central family. Central has not had a directory for a few years. The time has come again.  Beginning September 19th and continuing on the 26th and Oct. 3rd, a table will be in the parlor for you to update your family’s information. We will be able to take your picture on the spot, upload one of your favorites, or schedule you for a more formal photography session.  Additional times to update your information will be held throughout the weeks following.  For more information, please contact the office.

New Class Meetings

How is it with your soul? Do you want to go deeper with God? Grow in your faith? Our new class meetings are just for you! In early Methodism, class meetings were the building blocks of the church. These small group gatherings were intentional, safe spaces where fellow believers could “watch over one another in love” and spur one another to deeper faith. We have several new groups starting this fall and meeting at various times. We’ll be using Kevin Watson’s The Class Meeting as a key resource. You’re invited to sign-up in the lobby, or you can reach out to Pastor Joseph or Pastor Phil.

TRIBE – Ways to Support

Our fall season for TRIBE is up and running! There are several ways you can get involved and help support our youth: 1) Pray- Commit to praying daily for us; 2) Volunteer- Become a mentor/small group leader; 3) Snacks- Help keep us stocked with cookies, chips, pop, etc. If you can help in any of these ways, please reach out to Pastor Phil.

Wills and Estate Planning Workshop

The Central United Methodist Church Endowment Committee is going to host a Workshop on Wills and Estate Planning on September 26th after morning services. If you do not have a will or have not updated your will in many years, and have concerns as to how your estate may divided you may want to attend. If you have any question, please contact Jan Passmore. If you would like to attend, please call the church office by September 22nd so that we can plan for food.

Kinship Appreciation Collection

Thank you for your support.  We will collect again on September 19.  If you need to bring things by the church at another time, the basket is on the right coat rack. This collection is being organized by DCS (Department of Children’s Services).  They are responsible for foster family services.  We are taking your generous offerings to the office where they will be packed for the 85 families who are fostering  children who are relatives – but, without full foster funding.  This is one way DCS tries to support these important families. Our class wants to thank you, Caiden, Caleb, Courtney, Will

Questions and Discussion

Following the Postlude, there will be time and space to follow-up on today’s reflection and Scripture readings. Bring your thoughts, questions, and insight forward for us to continue the conversation. Pastor Joseph will respond and share more from the research on the sermon this week as we work out our discipleship together.

Prayer Walks
Prayer connects us daily to a loving God moving in our midst. In his 3 rules for Methodists, John Wesley calls us to both private and public prayer. On the first Monday of every month at noon, we will have a prayer walk through our neighborhood. We will divide into small groups at the entrance of the church and proceed in different directions. Along the way, we will pause to pick up trash and renew our streets and sidewalks. Please contact Pastor Joseph with any questions.
