Children & Youth Sunday School

We are gearing up for another year of Preschool – 12th grade Sunday School with a gathering for the WHOLE family! Please join us Sunday, September 11th at 9am up in Studio 252 – use the stairs by the office/sanctuary and you can’t miss it 😉 We’ll sing, fellowship, and share the plan for the different age groups so kids and parents know what to expect.

** Please prayerfully discern if you would be able to serve on a monthly teaching rotation for our Children & Youth Sunday School. You will be partnered with another adult or older youth, materials will be provided. **

American Red Cross

Dana Mollenkopf will be manning booth 124 at the Archway Days in Centerville on August 26 and 27 focusing on the Wayne County American Red Cross. They will be sharing information about free smoke alarms, blood donations, the scope of RC services and how to volunteer with Red Cross. It will start at 3:00 p.m. on the 26th and 9:00a.m. on the 27th and will end at 9:00 each day. He would love to have people join him in the booth to share information about Red Cross. You will be told everything you need to know to share information with those who stop by to see us. If you are interested and would like to join him for even a short time, contact him at papamole@comcast.net or 765-277-0287.

Continuing the Conversation

There remains many prayers, questions to be asked, Scripture passages to study, history to ponder, and conversations to be had as we come to a better understanding of the current issues surrounding the UMC. We may not know all the paths ahead, but we can have greater clarity on where we are now. Pastor Joseph is available to gather with you or your group to continue this conversation for greater understanding. To set up a time, please call the office at 765-962 8543 or email joseph@richmondcumc.com. We will journey through this all together.

VBS

Thank you to everyone who donated items or volunteered their time to this year’s VBS! We couldn’t have done it without you.

Lamplighter Devotionals and Testimonies

We are asking for devotionals and testimonies from the congregation to be shared in a future Lamplighter. If you feel led to share, please submit yours to Christin at christin@richmondcumc.com

Community Prayer Focus
This month we get to join our community in praying for Church Friends Who Need God. You are encouraged to ask God to fill your heart with love for your friends, help you know what encouraging words to share with them, and remind them of his great love for them.. And don’t forget: Our 24-hour prayer cycle is Sunday, August 28th. Please pick up a prayer packet in the hallway or in the church office.
Long-time Central attendee Rev. Ted Halsted and member of the United Methodist Church Michigan conference was recently honored with the Michigan Conference Cane. This cane is presented to the oldest living clergyperson who has been under appointment to the conference for a minimum of thirty years. Halsted has been to 71 consecutive annual conference sessions and is still coming. The body of the cane is made from wood from the church in Adrian where the Detroit Conference was founded. The cane contains wooden inlays from the first Michigan Methodist church building in River Rouge, the desk of Seth Reed (an early Methodist pastor in MI during 1800’s), the tree that overlooks the grave of Barbara Heck (known as “Mother of American Methodism” in 1700’s), wood from the pulpit of Robert Strawbridge (moved from Ireland to colonies in 1760’s), and the building in which Judson Collins converted to Methodism (Collins was a Methodist missionary in China in 1840’s).

When asked if he had thoughts on entrusting the ministry of the church to a younger generation, Halsted replied: “We have a wonderful heritage, and my hope is that the younger generation of clergy will realize that the United Methodist Church is so much more than just the local church. We have shared the Gospel and put it into practice all around the world.”
