Information Session

An information session will be held on Sunday, March 19th at 12:00 in the sanctuary. Russ Abel, our conference superintendent, will provide information for our congregation regarding disaffiliation from the UMC. There will be a light lunch provided in the Fellowship Hall between the end of Sunday worship and the beginning if the information session at 12:00. The Administrative Council will make a decision whether to proceed with a vote to disaffiliate at the March 23rd meeting at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall. Please feel free to attend the meeting to address the Council with your preference regarding our congregation voting at this time. Please also feel free to reach out to any of the members of the Ad Council and communicate your preference if you would prefer to speak individually.

 

UMCOR RESPONSE TO EARTHQUAKES IN TURKEY AND SYRIA

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey at 4:17 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, the most powerful earthquake recorded since 1939. In the hours that followed, at least 78 aftershocks were reported, followed by a second earthquake of 7.5 magnitude. The earthquake and aftershocks also impacted northwest Syria, where 4.1 million people depend on humanitarian assistance. Syrian communities, many of them women and children, are simultaneously facing an ongoing cholera outbreak and extreme winter weather, including heavy rain and snow. to give to UMCOR, please make a check out to Central United Methodist Church and put “Earthquakes” in the memo line. UWF Meeting

United Women in Faith will meet this Thursday. March 9th at 1:00pm in Fellowship Hall. A short business meeting will be followed by our speaker, Elizabeth Holmes, who will tell us about ABILITIES, a local nonprofit which serves disabled people in our community and about their exciting plans for the future. If you would like to join us for lunch at 12:00, please let Shanron Rider or Mary Ann Brooks know that you are coming. Come join us for food and fellowship. All are welcome!

 

Central Childcare Thanks You!

Thank you to everyone that has donated supplies and funds to Central Childcare. We are so excited about things to come in the near future starting with expanding into a 3 and 4 year old classroom! If you want to hear about all the wonderful things we are doing for our kids and their families, feel free to talk with Kathy George, our Childcare Director, by emailing cumcchildcare@richmondcumc.com or by calling 765-962-8543. We are still in need of a few items; Tissues, Plastic tote boxes (all sizes), Various craft/sensory supplies like; glue (white or clear), corn starch, empty water bottles, Empty Coffee cans, Empty Paper towel or toilet paper rolls, etc., Sponges, Mr Clean Magic Erasers, and Dish Soap. If you would like to give a monetary donation, it will be used to provide snacks for our classrooms. Again, thank you to everyone who as donated so far!

Community Emergency Relief Room

Referrals to the Relief Room have been coming in rather frequently. Our supply of men’s shoes is getting small. Dress shoes are not needed but casual shoes, tennis shoes and shoe boots would be helpful. Kitchen items and small pieces of furniture are always in need. THANKS!

 

Sunrise Service

Central will again be joining Centerville and First United Methodist Churches for the 7am Easter Sunrise Service and Breakfast at Cope Environmental Center. Please share with others in the community. Central has been asked to help with the drinks for the breakfast. If you would like to bring drinks or help in other ways, please contact Pastor Joseph.

 

Lamplighter Devotionals and Testimonies

We are asking for devotionals and testimonies from the congregation to be shared in a future Lamplighter. If you feel led to share, please submit yours to Christin at christin@richmondcumc.com 

 

Garage Sale

Red Cross Blood Drive May 3rd

We are now scheduled for our spring blood drive to support the American Red Cross in their effort to address the critical blood shortage which exists. We have a number of slots to fill, so we are looking for past CUMC donors, as well as new donors, to get registered in order to make this a successful blood drive. Go to redcrossblood.org and enter code CUMCRICH in the box that says find a blood drive. Appointment times are available 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Tribe Parent Meeting Sunday

Sunday we will have a parent meeting for members of Tribe from 5-5:30pm while the youth are at Tribe. We will discuss the upcoming mission trip, Fusion, camp, and other parts of Tribe’s future.
