CONVERSATIONS WITH CHARLIE

Recently I watched the newest remake of that classic movie KING KONG. At the end of the movie, the death of KONG is described as having been caused by his obsession with the beautiful woman. The line is “Beauty destroyed the beast.” All kinds of thoughts raced through my mind as I considered the implications of that line.
Bear with me as I ‘monkey’ with these thoughts. Attracted to the woman at first sight, KONG went to great lengths to save her, even risking his own life. Indeed, his actions to protect her eventually cost him his existence. I know this is “only a movie” but it stirred me to consider our own decisions in life. What are the things we deem important enough for which to die? Is it an obsession or does our attraction truly run deep? Which requires greater valor, to die for some cause or to live for some one?
I am sure that when Jesus died upon the cross there were persons who looked upon Him with lots of questions. What force was it that motivated Him to die such a horrible death? Why did He not call those 10,000 angels? Why did He not save Himself?
We know there was a greater plan in place.
It was not by accident. Obsession did not lead Jesus to the cross; it was God’s love that prompted this action. Beauty may have destroyed KONG but it was God’s love and sacrifice that destroyed DEATH. Now nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus and His Father. I hope to see you in church and Sunday school.
In His love,
Charlie Black,
Director of Christian Education

CHILDREN’S CHURCH

HAVE YOU RECEIVED A CALLING?
Working in any form of ministry is indeed a calling. That is especially so when working with children. So many times, we just have a tendency to set the children ‘to the side’ while the important work of the Lord is done. Even the disciples felt this way. Scripture tells the story of how the disciples tried to divert the children away from Jesus because His other work was too important and He was too busy as well. You know the story. Jesus intervened, received the children, and blessed them. In the next few days and weeks I will be making calls to schedule volunteers to work in our Children’s Church program. Please consider this ministry; if you are so led, you could even call me to volunteer. I appreciate each of you for taking on this VERY IMPORTANT ministry to our Central children. Charlie Black
