NOTHING BUT NETS

More than 100,000 insecticide-treated nets were delivered to Nigeria in November, a part of a new malaria prevention campaign called Nothing But Nets. Partners in this project include the United Methodist Church, the United Nations Foundation, Sports Illustrated, The NBA, Millenium Promise, and the Measles Initiative. United Methodist youth nationwide are supporting this campaign. The goal is to raise funds to eradicate malaria in Africa. The idea for Nothing But Nets came from Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly after he learned that 1 million children die from malaria each year and that bed nets can save lives. In just a few months more than 17,000 people sent $1.2 million. Reilly plans to join delegations from Nothing But Nets to distribute nets in Nigeria and to meet children who will benefit from them. More information is available by going to www.umc.org and typing in keyword “Nothing But Nets.”
